Mac OS X Forum :: RE: Recombine seperations
pstill can recombine seperations, but converts to cmyk - but then you can map the colours back to spot pstill can combine pdf files as well yes well - the UV folks have said they can accept a seperated pdf of just the spot and varnish areas - so all is well again in the world and the hangover i have now seems not quite so bad _ expertise: nothing - Read More at This Link..

Mac OS X Forum :: Mac OS X 10.4.11
Hi all, Bit of a weird one this and before you ask, no I didn't have a heavy night! Basically I have had this problem before on the Mac, I am using a Powermac G5 and OS X 10.4.11. I had a problem this morning with one of my applications and basically got the beachball of death and had to do a hard restart. After this and similar to what I have had before, all my icons, windows, fonts etc have a sort of blurred/bleached effect and look a bit fuzzy which is beginning to hurt my eyes! Now last time I was advised to delete the file 'com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist' as I was having trouble ... - Read More at This Link..

Or a sort of 'halo' effect. Have looked at monitor settings but I haven't physically changed anything that I can see. Also I have just created a new user on the Mac and logged in and low and behold all the fonts/typefaces are crisp and clean looking! Any ideas??!! - Read More at This Link..

We have all our images on the server sorted by the customer that they are used for. Each folder is named by the customer. I'm not usre if this is will work for you or not it all depends if your a design shop or a print shop that has the files supplied. I do find that when the server gets to many folder it has trouble seeing all of them that's a reminder to clean up the server. - Read More at This Link..

Apple is aware of the issue and it supposedly will be fixed in the next point release 10.5.2. I rolled back to Tiger on my MacBook because of all the issues in Leopard. Apple is aware of the issue and it supposedly will be fixed in the next point release 10.5.2. I rolled back to Tiger on my MacBook because of all the issues in Leopard. My wireless wouldn't work, slow transfer speeds, kernel panics, etc... I even had done a clean install and not just an upgrade. Not happy with Leopard right now, but I guess it's to be expected. I don't think any operating system vendor has had a good release right out the door in a few year's now. In my personal experience, you CAN get Apple gear into a shop, I wrote on my blog about how we did it at Creo. Basically, you need to make a business case to the money people and avoid getting into a technological pee-pee fight with IT. Before going over the head of IT, you first need to determine if they are reasonable or inflexible. There is an easy test: Are they monoculture? Any serious gamer does a purpose-build - including a heavy-weight graphics card, which Macs do not (yet) allow for the best options - rumoured to be on the way. First, your Spotlight preferences might be corrupt - I would use OnyX to flush them: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/20070 (don't know if it's Leopard friendly yet, but that may not be relevant to your case) Within Onyx: Maintenance -> Reset -> Spotlight Index (can save an Archive & Install, or more drastic measures). Second, check out the Extensis support material - well worth a read - general support references: http://www.extensis.com/en/support/index.jsp?id=3902214 specific forums: http://forums.extensis.com/jforum/forums/list.page if you are u... - Read More at This Link..

Mac OS X Forum :: Copy OS 9 Finder Comments to IPTC (XMP) Metadata Fields
Oooh my first question to ask on here! Anyone have or know of a good script or application that can copy OS 9 Finder comments to the IPTC (XMP) metadata fields for graphics (tiff, eps, jpg) and PDF files? We use Xinet Fullpress/WebNative and it was setup a long time ago by Mac OS 9 users and instead of properly adding metadata to the IPTC fields on the graphics, they put it in the OS 9 Finder comments field. This keeps newer asset management systems, design applications, and non-Mac OS 9 systems from being able to read and manipulate the data. ... - Read More at This Link..

joepostscript, good morning! thanks for the reply. i can't say what is recommended for whose workflow, everyone just has to find a way that works for them, and im sure lots of people are comfortable with different ways of font management, and have a lot of success with it. i can only speak from my experience, and i have worked in 2 large, high-volume prepress departments, and have used this method exclusively for 5 years, and all of our font issues have dried up. im not saying it works for everyone, but i can say that in my experience, it is the quickest, easiest, most reliable way we have found. activatin... - Read More at This Link..

Done venting now, so let me explain our situation a little better. We are a small lan with 2 servers and 22 clients. OS X, Microsoft Excel .XLS file import issue in QuarkXPress
===========================
Hello, The way you are doing it is a method that may (usually) work but only with very simple files. So, what I do is always make the file into an PDF, then an EPS, that (always) works. Quark Xpress prefers an EPS or Tiff over anything else. (1) What you do is print the file from MS Excel to Distiller, be sure color PDF settings are set to CMYK so that you don't come out with an RGB file. Open & Set your Distiller to PDF/X-1a before you print is best. (2) Then open that file in Acrobat and save as an EPS file. Set level 2 eps, cmyk color space, an... - Read More..

Prepress, Falling level of expertise in Graphic Arts, first post

It helps to be in an environment where you can watch over someone's shoulder and learn how to do some of those things - and I know that's sometimes hard to find anymore. Personally, I'm online every day, following all the major Macintosh troubleshooting and news sites, participating in various troubleshooting forums, in addition to working with the hardware and software in my daily job duties and troubleshooting for others. Just being able to absorb the information doesn't do you much good if you can't "practice" using what you've learned somewhere. So look for somewhere you can get that hands-on practice. About Mac OS X Panther and 10.4 Tiger Library Folders?

Hello, i am a late adopter of Mac OS X and started out in Mac OS X Panther. I missed out on lots of the fundamentals and early adoption problems I guess and now i am trying to catch up. Some of the questions I have here are very simple and fundamental since I'm really new to Mac OS X and haven't been using it too long. My first question is about the Library Folder(s), what exactly are they and why are there multiple Library Folders in Mac OS X Panther. Also, I assume this will also not change in Mac OS X Tiger? Trying to get to know this new OS like I did Mac OS 9, I knew Mac OS 9 inside & out.

There are about a dozen public beach access points within the city limits of Destin. The majority are city facilities with one site for the county, and one site for the state. Below are the public beach access points within the Destin City limits:

* Norriego Point Public Beach Access
* O'Steen Public Beach Access
* Calhoun Public Beach Access
* June White Decker Public Beach Park
* Silver Shells Beach Public Beach Accesses
* Henderson Beach State Park (Fee required.)
* Shirah Street Public Beach Access
* Shore at Crystal Beach Public Access & Park
* Crystal Beach Drive Public Beach Access
* Barracuda Street Public Beach Access
* Pompano Street Public Beach Access
* James Lee Park Public Beach

Dogs and pets are not allowed on Okaloosa County or City of Destin beaches. Walton County (Sandestin area) allows "registered and leased" dogs on their beaches. Please check with Walton County officials at www.co.walton.fl.us to obtain registration information. Sea turtles come ashore to nest on the gulf beaches of Okaloosa County, usually between April and November. Due to human exploitation and habitat destruction, sea turtles are threatened with extinction. The female turtle usually comes ashore at night to lay her eggs in the sand. The female turtle lays about 100 eggs in a process that takes from 2 to 3 hours to complete. Please help protect these remarkable animals. Avoid disturbing a turtle that is crawling to or from the water. Avoid crowding around a nesting turtle and do not shine lights in her eyes or take flash pictures.
