In my personal experience, you CAN get Apple gear into a shop, I wrote on my blog about how we did it at Creo. Basically, you need to make a business case to the money people and avoid getting into a technological pee-pee fight with IT. Before going over the head of IT, you first need to determine if they are reasonable or inflexible. There is an easy test: Are they monoculture?
