Mac OS X 10.3 Update Problem, Stuffit Has Slow Launch

When updating some software and I had downloded a few updates to expand and install, expanded and installed most of them. Then I ran apple's software update and it said there was an update for Mac OS X 10.3 to install, I ran that and updated the OS. Then when I rebooted, I began to expand and install another "zip" file archive, when I dropped it on Stuffit Expander, it took forever, I mean FOREVERRRR.

So, off I went to another Mac to do updates, tested my idea that after updating the Mac OS X to 10.3.7, Stuffit took MINUES to launch. So, it's proven that that after updating to OS 10.3.7 that Stuffit Expander is launching extremely slow. Up to five minutes or so on older G4's and eMacs. I tried installing the latest Stuffit update to Stuffit Expander 9.0.1 and the problem continues. Are you guys having this problem? Any Ideas?

RE: Mac OSX Software Update Errors

AFAIK Software Update works thru port 80 (http), so if you can connect to the internet you should be able to use it. I have ftp blocked at the server level and can still update my client machines. Sounds like some sort of permissions problem. Boot from the system CD and repair permissions and repair disk. That should do it. If not, try to download the updates from Apple and install them manually. If still no joy, create a new user with admin priveleges and login as the new user, then try Software update again. If this still doesn't work your system is damaged, and it' re-install time.

Oh, almost forgot! Before doing any of this, try deleting the file com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist in Library/Preferences, then try to update..

Adobe Acrobat Distiller 6 Crashing Problem, Mac OS X 10.3

We've been running PDF Robot for Mac OS 9 to do our publications for a couple of years now. We are upgrading our three PDF Robot Macs from Mac OS 9 to Mac OS X to run PDF-X-Robot. We dowloaded PDF-X-Robot and installed on two G5's (as discussed) so far. On Art Director's G5 it runs without a problem, but on the Designer #01 G5 it crashes out of Acrobat Distiller every time. Why?

Does anyone know how to perform fsck with the terminal in Mac OS X Panther. It has been a long time since I needed to use fsck in the terminal or shell to check my file system. It seems like the command is not working in Mac OS X Panther? Please help, I'm having mac problems here and need to run fsck . Not working the way I remembered. I haven't used it in a couple of years. Also, while I'm asking for information. I thought I'd ask if fsck was the same as apple's Disk Utility on the install CD.
